Terrie M. Benjamin has served as Director of Music and organist since 1997, where she conducts the Chancel Choir and the Sounds of Philippus Bell Choir. Ms. Benjamin received the Bachelor of Music degree in organ performance from the University of Kentucky, where she studied with Arnold Blackburn, and the Master of Music in organ performance from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, where she studied organ with Jerald Hamilton, and sang in the choir at the Chapel of St. John the Divine. Further study with Professor Stefan Klinda was at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Mrs. Benjamin previously served as organist-choir director at Zion United Church of Christ in Norwood, and at churches in Kentucky, Ohio and New York, including assistant chapel organist at The Interchurch Center on Riverside Drive in New York City. She is a member of the American Guild of Organists-Cincinnati Chapter, Phi Beta Professional Fraternity-Pi Alpha Mu Chapter, and the United Church of Christ Musicians Association.
David attended Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids Michigan and is a graduate of Kalamazoo Valley Community College. He has a degree in Liberal Arts and a Certificate of Medical Billing and Coding. Prior to Philippus, David has worked with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Medical Records, MedLegal/Universata Inc. in Release of Information, and as a Medical Records and Radiology Clerk at the Michigan State University Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies in Kalamazoo Michigan. He currently sings tenor in the Philippus Chancel Choir and with the Young Professional’s Choral Collective based in Over the Rhine.
I worked full-time for Philippus Church for 9 years from 1999-2008. I left to broaden my career and am working full time at the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati as Regional Training Director. I came back to work part-time for Philippus in 2012. I have 2 children, Joshua who is married to Lindsy and they have 2 children Macaila age 15 and Kenyan age 12. My daughter, Nina, has 3 children Ruh age 3, Bam age 1 ½ and Dom age 5 months. Nina and the boys are currently living with us. I have been married to Gene McVey who is a minister for 12 years. Right now Gene is not serving as pastor but we lead a nursing home ministry and a weekly in-home Bible Study for our church. I enjoy camping, reading and spending time with my grandkids!
